Voicemail Breaks New Ground!
Kingston, Jamaica: Dec 28, 2007 Source: Jamaican Observer Local dancehall trio Voice Mail is set to diversify their act in 2008. Just back from a three-city tour of Japan, Voice Mail member Oneil told Splash that the group is planning on expanding its musical offerings in the new year. "We jus a continue fe build our brand," said Oneil, "because the game is really stepping up. We have to show more versatility." The group came to prominence about three years ago after doing several catchy dance numbers which featured street dancer Bogle aka 'Mr Wacky'. Oneil said this had caused some dancehall patrons to pigeon hole the group. "Alot of people feel say Voice Mail can only do dance song, but we are much more than that." The group has, in the last month, released four new singles Gangalee produced by The Ballers; Modelling A Gwaan on teen-producing prodigy Stephen McGregor's Bee Hive riddim; Gone A Lead and I Need You, which features a music video. Building the brand, Oneil said, would also must encompass touring, which the boys will continue today when they leave for The Bahamas. Regarding the just-concluded tour of Japan, the artiste was excited about breaking new ground. "Our first stop was Nagoya. it's not as modern as other Japanese cities, so the people weren't as exposed to us. It was a tough crowd but a 'murder'," Oneil declared, adding that the other stops were Tokyo and Osaka. "Bwoy, when we deh deh everything we do we get forward, de people dem love it so much dat if we jus' stand up mek noise," he added. But with plans to diversify, what else will be new for 2008? "We're going to drop an album for the Japan market by 'bout April," Oneil disclosed, adding that another is to be produced early next year for the western market. The project is still untitled.
