Jamaican reggae artistes, Jah Mason and Lutan Fyah have refuted allegations that they mislead the public about the success of their recently concluded European tour.
Lutan_Fyah.jpg"We never talk to no press or nobody about the attendance at the shows. We know that the tour went well because we were paid every week, there were some other problems which we won't get into but we are surprised that Michel would call and try to misrepresent us in an attempt to smear our characters," Lutan Fyah said in an international call to the offices of One876Entertainment.com yesterday.
Jah Mason, who will be launching his album, No Matter the Time this month, also explained the source of what he called this character assassination.
"We know where this is coming from, there are certain promoters in the business who are not ethical in how they deal with artistes. We stand up for our rights on tour by insisting that we don't stay in any cheap two star hotel as stipulated in our contracts and because of this and some other things that we don't want to highlight in the press, these promoters are trying to smear us, but Jamaica, don't believe it," he said.
Lutan Fyah's manager, George Golding confirmed that his artiste had no need to lie. "From all reports, including a major distributor who is seeking to sign Lutan, the shows were well attended. I was told personally by the record company executive that contacted me, that he was pleasantly surprised that Jah Mason and Lutan Fyah were able to attract so many people and they are relatively unknown. Jah Mason and Lutan at no time compared their tour to any of the stalwarts (Beenie Man, Anthony B, Capleton or any other)." He said.
"As we know in Reggae, when a promoter starts making claims that 'attendance is low' it is usually to 'cream off' more money and/or an attempt to under pay our artistes," Golding told a One876Entertainment.com reporter.
"Maybe if Michel Jovanovic has nothing good to say about our artistes that he puts on tours he should allow others who are prepared to book our artistes the space to do so. Promoters who booked the current Lutan Fyah - Jah Mason package are already seeking summer dates. I think this speaks for itself." He continued.
Jah Mason and Lutan Fyah return to the island this Wednesday.
